Born in Oakridge, Tennessee, John's family moved to the Puget Sound region of Washington state in 1952. By 1972, John had become a Northwest fine woodworking craftsman. He, his wife JoAnn and their two teenage children now call Auburn, Washington their home.

John has been a vendor at Seattle's Pike Place Market since 1975 and is an active participant in Seattle's community of artists and craftsmen. Constantly striving to improve his line of ornately laminated hardwood cribbage boards, he personally grades and selects every piece of hardwood used in production. Literally looking through hundreds of board feet of lumber before finding the few pieces with high enough quality to make the grade.
